Retail Commerce
Retail commerce has been part of America's economic structure since this
nation's inception. It's what has kept this country strong–economically and
politically. And because of the strength of our retail commerce, America has
become one of the most prosperous nations on earth.
Commerce During the Last Century
Retail commerce has evolved considerably over the last 100 years. From the
"Mom & Pop" stores on every corner in every small town, to the grand
department stores which were the corner stones of commerce for many of
America's big cities. These economic avenues were accompanied by the
convenience of mail-order catalog shopping, which became a staple in homes
across the country.
Convenient Shopping Under One Roof
The creation of indoor shopping malls in the late '60s and early '70s gave
the buying public a new venue for retail commerce. Any store you could think
of was conveniently located under one roof. One destination to drive to; one
place to park; a day's shopping done in half the time; now it's time for
dinner and a movie - everything in one place.
But as Americans' lives became busier, the shopping malls that were once
convenient, are now a hassle. Many Americans have turned to catalog sales
from the convenience of their homes. Just pick up the phone, pull out a
credit card, and literally, "baby has a new pair of shoes." Who says you
have to leave the house to get quality merchandise?
